In general there are two types of newborn photography out there- lifestyle newborn photography and studio newborn photography. We offer a best of both worlds scenario in our Lifestyle Studio! To better understand what we provide for our clients, first let’s talk about the differences between the two styles.

Lifestyle Newborn Photography

Lifestyle newborn photography is traditionally done in your own home and is much more relaxed in nature. Lifestyle photographers are looking to capture real moments and interactions between family members and their tiny new loved one. Some Glean & Co lifestyle sessions from days past, look like this:

Studio Newborn Photography

Studio newborn photography is done in a professional space (sometimes that space is in a photographers home and sometimes it’s a commercial retail space) and the focus is on getting the baby into those adorable studio poses on clean backgrounds or in props like buckets and bowls. Professional Hair and Makeup for Mom

Getting ready to leave the house when you’ve just had a baby is no joke. Everything takes longer than you think it will and there’s this little factor of sleep deprivation that makes everything feel a little more difficult. (ok, a lot more difficult.) You might not feel awesome about yourself just a few days postpartum and not sure you’ll even like these photos if you have to be in them. With professional hair and makeup you can get up and shower and arrive at the studio with a clean face and a fed baby. That’s it! No need to do your makeup or hair. Heck, with our new client closet, you don’t even have to figure out what to wear. Let us mother the brand new mother with the ultimate pampered newborn experience.

10am- Arrive with baby for hair and makeup

Mom gets to sip on a bubbly (alcoholic or not, your choice!) while we take those posed studio portraits of baby by themselves. Not to worry, you can see your baby and watch the action the entire time while our professional artists work their magic to enhance your natural beauty.

Choose a Dress from Our Client Closet

We know how stressful it is to think about what to wear for your family photos. (seriously, even after all these years as professionals, it still stresses us out to dress our own families)

We’ve curated a growing collection of gowns in bump friendly and post-bump friendly shapes and sizes, all available for our clients to borrow. We have a wide range of colors and styles to choose from and encourage everyone to come look through it all in advance to make sure we have something to your liking. Don’t want to wear a dress? That’s ok too! We have a bunch of textured sweaters as well as a few pajama sets.

Bring in the Fam

11:30am- Family photo time!

Our professional hair and makeup artists have finished and we’re ready to go for family pictures! We recommend older siblings arrive at this time so they are fresh and ready for some sibling photos and full family. We’ll also be sure to grab a few mom with baby and dad with baby shots as well. If grandparents are visiting to see the new baby they are also welcome to join in the fun!

Just like you saw in the images at the top of this page, we focus on family connection above all else. We’ll ask you to snuggle close and kiss your spouse, inspect your new baby’s teeny tiny features and smell their fresh heads. The same type of images we used to have to go to client’s homes for, can now be taken in our beautiful natural light studio!

Lunch is on us!

As soon as we’re finished with the family photo portion of your experience, we bring in a catered lunch from a local Boise restaurant of your choosing. You’ll have about a half an hour to relax and feed both you and your baby. Have older siblings? We have a playground outside that they are more than welcome to play on!

12:30 Lunch arrives and your images are prepped for viewing

While you’re relaxing, we’re choosing the best of the best images we took together. We go from around 800 images (yes, we take a TON) to around 80 culled favorites that we’ll show you straight after lunch.

1:15pm- Time to see your images and order favorites

The ordering portion of your session is one of our absolute favorite parts because we get to really hold your hand and help you decide which images will bring your joy for the rest of your life. It sounds like a daunting task, but we promise our process will help you through every step of the way. We have a wide variety of prints and products that we have hand picked from labs around the world to showcase your newest family member and can steer you toward the best choice for your home and your budget. Typically our clients are choosing 15-30 finished images to take home with them in either a collection box, album or wall display.

Only Order What You Love

2:30pm- Head home for a nap!

Typically our clients have chosen their favorites and we’re wrapping up around 2:30. Yes, it’s a long day but the beauty is that you don’t have to come back again with a new baby! Now you get to go home and relax while you wait for your finished artwork to arrive.

Our turnaround time for products is usually around 3-4 weeks, depending on the medium ordered with heirlooms coming a little faster and custom frames taking a bit longer.

All of your ordered images will also arrive with a matching digital file which you’ll have in your inbox about a week after your session. Share your new family joy with family and friends before most other families have even gotten to see the proofs.
