Pinterest fails have taught us that things are not nearly as easy as they may seem and that absolutely is true for newborn photography. The problem is that unlike a cake that came out badly baked or an art project gone wrong, we can’t go back in time. The baby has grown.
We don’t get a second shot at photographing their first few weeks of life.
I can’t ever go back to fix my son’s images, no matter how much my work improves over the years. (want to see just how bad they are? go back to beginning of October to read the whole story)
But I can absolutely pass on the tips and tricks I’ve learned so other new moms don’t end up in the same boat as me.
The fact of the matter is that you absolutely can take safe newborn photos of your new baby with some basic knowledge of lighting, angles, baby-led posing and safety. (Yes, even if your only camera is your phone!)
Whether you choose to also hire a professional or take them all yourself, you can never have too many beautiful images of your favorite new face.
You may feel like you can’t plan anything in this crazy Covid-19 world. Well, I’m here to tell you that you absolutely can plan. If you decide to take control and take some, if not all, of your newborn’s images, then you can set yourself up for success, so you don’t repeat the mistakes I made.
Check out tomorrow’s post where I break down all the options for capturing your beautiful baby in a very uncertain world.
