Do you feel like you have a lot of time?
????️
Last night, as I should have been going to bed I was scrolling through instagram and 2 images popped up back to back- 1 from a friend here in Boise, one from a friend in Seattle.
????
Their posts had almost identical captions on them. “Where has this year gone?” attached to a photo of their growing baby.
????
And then a 3rd image popped up with a friend’s 2 year old that said “Time is a thief.”
????
The moment you have your first baby, this new clock starts. Your life is now divided into the time before baby and everything that has come since. The thing that is never quite articulated though is that when the AB timeline starts (that’s “after baby” ????) it’s in fast forward.
⏩
Oh the days will feel long, that’s for sure. But the truth is, those first few days and weeks pass in a haze of feedings, diaper changes, and very, very little sleep.
????
The other truth is, your baby is a ‘newborn’ in photography terms for 4-6 weeks, max. They become less sleepy and more alert during the day, and start to sleep for longer stretches at night (fingers crossed!) Just as you’re coming out of the fog of those sleepless nights and remember your plan to have newborn photos taken, your baby will be wriggling around, unhappy being wrapped so tight, and refusing to fall asleep. Not to mention that all the professionals schedules will be full.
????
You can take amazing photos of your own newborn if you’ve already thought about it while you’re still pregnant and able to get those 8 hours in every night. But if you don’t prep and you’re running on empty, you’ll really struggle.
????????????What you need: A Plan.
That plan may be to hire a professional newborn photographer. {And if so, make sure you do that early in your pregnancy to ensure your favorite photographer has availability.}
????
But odds are you’re going to also take some photos of your own- why not start the learning process now, while you’re still pregnant?
