Bathtime is an everyday part of every mom’s life. So much so, that it’s probably never even crossed your mind to take bathtub motherhood photos. Taking photos in the playful and intimate setting of the tub is thinking outside the frame a bit–but these types of photos have become some of our favorites.
When we were first building the Glean and Co studio in Boise, Idaho, we knew we wanted to add a deep soaker tub. We envisioned doing cake smash tub-time photos, milk bath maternity sessions…and yes, maybe taking a long soak ourselves after a long day of shooting. At the time, we didn’t realize the studio tub would quickly become a favorite place to create intimate motherhood moments, including a few for ourselves.
Why Take Tub Photos?
Tub photos are playful and fun. Most babies and young children love splashing around in the warm water, making it the perfect place for giggles and playtime between mother and child.
Bathtub motherhood photos are intimate. Skin to skin is so beautiful and intimate, and highlights the precious bond between you and your baby.
Bathtime pictures are unique. We don’t usually have a camera in the tub with us, so capturing these moments makes for images that are special and different.
Bath images create a unique set of artwork perfect for a bathroom wall gallery. We’ve talked before about places for private wall art. The bathroom is the perfect spot to display those intimate, playful photos of you and your little ones in the tub.

Boise Milk Bath Maternity:
Capture your beautiful bump surrounded by fresh flowers! Milk bath photos are a relaxing way to soak up the last few weeks of pregnancy and show some skin. Past clients have chosen bandeau wraps, lacy bralettes, sports bras, open knit sweaters and off-the-shoulder crop tops.
Boise Breastfeeding and Postpartum Sitz Bath:
Having a moment of calm relaxation after welcoming a new baby into this world is vital. Our breastfeeding sitz bath shoots use healing herbs and warm water on those delicate parts and skin to skin time with baby creates beautiful moments of early bonding. Boise Cake Smash & Splash:
There’s nothing better than celebrating Baby’s first birthday with a cake smash- nothing that is, until we introduced the splash after the smash! After your little one gets their fill of cake we pop them into a warm bubble bath for some giggles and splashing before sending them home squeaky clean. We encourage moms and dads to stay in the frame, cleaning up baby and playing as they would do any other bath night. We love to capture these natural “every day” moments of caring for your baby.
