Investing in professional photos of your little one is always worth it, and you will never regret the decision to capture your child’s babyhood with beautiful images. What you may regret is not taking full advantage of your studio experience. We want you to come away with beautiful artwork, amazing memories, and zero regrets, so here’s how to get the most out of your photo session with Glean & Co.
Parents, Get in Those Photos!
We get a lot of photoshoot inquiries from families who just want photos of their new baby. And of course, we’re more than happy to accommodate with our baby-only session. But before you decide, consider this: These baby pictures are family heirlooms. While you want to enjoy them yourself, you also want them to be as full of meaning and memory as possible when you pass them down to your children and grandchildren. Your sweet baby is going to grow up (faster than you ever believed possible) and they’re going to want to see YOU when they look back at these photos.
Think about your own baby pictures for a moment. Would you rather have a photo of just yourself as a tiny baby, or a photo of you as a tiny baby snuggled in your mom’s arms? While both are special, we’re guessing your favorite will be the one that shows the relationship between you and your mother—and the younger face not just of yourself, but of one of the people you love most in the world.
We get it. As a new parent, you’re lucky if you manage a shower in the morning, let alone get yourself out of the house and to the studio feeling great and ready to be included in a photoshoot. That’s why we offer everything you need right here at our Boise, Idaho photo studio. Our client closet has outfits in every size and style, and we have professional hair and makeup services onsite to help you look and feel your best without even having to think about it.
All you need to do is show up. Really.
Consider also including: Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, fur babies and/or anyone else who is an extra important person in this new baby’s life.
While You’re Here…
We encourage you to take pictures of every little aspect of this moment. We are here to capture these memories for you, so why limit yourself? Since you’re at the studio, already investing the time and resources to create those beautiful photos, let’s take them all! You don’t have to purchase every photo, just the ones you love—and having a variety of images that speak to you is the first step towards creating a collection of personalized artwork you can treasure forever.
If you want to get the most out of your photo session, think about what you want to convey and remember through your photos. Here are a few different ideas of memories you may want to capture at the same time as your maternity or newborn session:
Bath Time
Don’t knock it ‘til you try it! Bathtub motherhood photos may seem a little different, but that’s part of their charm, and they can be so beautiful. We have a spa-like bath space right here at the studio, perfect for capturing intimate photos in a unique and relaxed setting. Check out our recent post about ways to utilize our studio bath space here.
Breastfeeding
You might think nursing your baby is too intimate to capture in photographs, but it’s part of your story. Not everyone finds breastfeeding easy, and that’s okay too. It can be messy, you might leak breastmilk onto the dress, baby might spit up, but none of that matters. Breastfeeding images are beautiful! While some people may feel comfortable showcasing these to the world, it’s also perfectly fine to keep them private. Check out this blog post all about the difference between public and private wall art—and why you can (and should!) have both.
Skin-on-Skin
Boudoir style photography doesn’t have to be about sex. It can be about intimacy and connection. Like the breastfeeding photos, there’s no need to display these to others if you don’t feel comfortable doing so. But these are precious moments that deserve to be recorded. We encourage dads to snuggle baby into their bare chest and moms to choose a kimono or intimate pajama set to capture all that beautiful skin while you bond with baby.
By the way, if you have tattoos, skin-on-skin photos are an absolute must! Here’s an example of a recent luxury newborn session that incorporated breastfeeding and ways to show off mom’s beautiful tattoos.
During this session we captured:
- Baby-only (both awake and asleep, posed and more candid)
- Dad and baby
- Mom and baby
- Family (both formal and candid shots)
- Breastfeeding
Our professional hair and makeup artists helped mom get photo-ready, and we chose pieces from our client closet for the entire family. Isn’t that yellow dress stunning on her?
