Warmer weather is here—and with it comes some of our favorite natural props and backdrops: Boise flowers! Family photos aren’t just for fall, and in fact, spring and summer are some of the best times to schedule a family photoshoot, since the kiddos have time off from school, the weather is great, and the outdoors is an absolute paradise. If you’re considering a spring or summer photoshoot, read on to discover the best places for spring and summer family photos. Let’s capture those memories against a background of flowers in Boise!
Why Do a Family Photoshoot with Flowers?
Pop of Color
Spring and summer flowers in Boise come in a range of vibrant colors, from bold reds and yellows to delicate pinks and purples. Incorporating these hues into your photos can add a pop of color and visual interest that’s hard to achieve with other backgrounds. Whether you’re looking for a dramatic contrast or just a subtle accent, the natural beauty of flowers can help you achieve the look you want.
Natural Setting
Many photographers and clients love the natural look and feel of outdoor photoshoots, and spring and summer flowers take that perfect setting over the top. Whether you choose a lush garden or a wildflower field, the backdrop of flowers can add depth and texture to your photos.
Soft and Natural Look
Fresh flowers have a soft, natural look that can help create a gentle and calming atmosphere for your photos.
Symbolic
Flowers symbolize growth and renewal—which makes them one of our favorite props to include with babies and toddlers. Flowers are the perfect backdrop for an outdoor newborn photoshoot if you have a spring or summer baby. And as you capture images of your child as they continue to grow and change, flowers can subtly and beautifully echo that theme.
Unique and Personal
Adding fresh flowers to your photos can help create a unique and personal touch that sets your images apart from others. You might choose flowers that have special meaning to you and your family. Or simply select flowers that complement the colors and theme of your photoshoot. For example, we often use fresh flowers in our maternity milk bath sessions purely for the gorgeous aesthetics they add to a new mom’s pregnancy photos.
Best Places for Spring and Summer Family Photos with Flowers in Boise
During the spring and summer months, Boise comes alive with all kinds of stunning flowers: the picture-perfect backdrop for your photoshoot. Here are a few of our favorite places for any kind of outdoor photoshoot:
Boise Foothills
Boise is known for its beautiful foothills, and in May and June the foothills surrounding the city are covered with patches of blue, white, and yellow wildflowers. We love Military Reserve, Hulls Gulch, and The Foothills Learning Center for incredible spots right in the heart of downtown.
Idaho Botanical Garden
The Idaho Botanical Garden features a variety of gardens and displays, including a stunning English Garden and a vibrant Vegetable Garden. It’s also the perfect place if you need to have your photoshoot towards late morning or early afternoon to accommodate nap schedules. The Botanical Garden has lots of shaded areas and places for toddlers to safely explore.
Kathryn Albertson Park
Kathryn Albertson Park is every photographer’s dreamland, filled with flowers that rotate in colors as spring fades to summer. The only con about Kathryn Albertson park is that come fall, every photographer and their sister is there taking pictures. So, take it from us, though it’s beautiful year-round, choose a summer session instead of fall. Otherwise you’ll be spending a lot of your session time waiting your turn for the good spots.
Bogus Basin
Bogus Basin Mountain Recreation Area, located just outside of Boise, is a popular destination for skiing and snowboarding in the winter months. But in the summer, the area transforms into a wildflower wonderland.
Emmett Cherry Blossoms
If soft springtime colors are your jam (pun intended) the cherry blossoms out in Emmett may be perfect for you. Late April is usually the best time to schedule your session if you want to incorporate cherry blossoms. Depending on the year, that gorgeous popcorn-on-the-tree look will sometimes last into May as well.
Lavender Fields
Lavender fields are a purple oasis—and smell amazing! They’re also perfect for a summer session, since the beauty of these fragrant flowers is at its height in July.
Fairfield Idaho
If you want to venture a little further, head to Fairfield in late May to see the camas lilies along the marsh. It is an absolutely stunning background with the Sawtooth Mountains sky-high behind you…but beware the mosquitoes. They can be brutal!
Flower Farms
Flower Farms have popped up all around the outskirts of Boise and are another great place to have a photoshoot. Just be sure to call in advance to find out their rules. Some charge a photography rate to use their fields while others will happily let you take pictures all day.
